Lost UV Tattoo by Tom Davis Gets Press Coverage on Daily Beast

Who woulda thought that a simple tattoo idea two summers ago would still be getting love from the media? Back in the fall of 2009 USA Today's website gave Andy Nick's UV Lost tattoo some love and this month his tattoo is getting even more press. This little gem was Tom's first delve into UV tattooing and it seems to be a pretty popular piece. Special thanks to Andy Nick - who loves to show off his tattoos and give credit to his artists!

The Lost Tribute Gallery on the Daily Beast feature places Tom's work in good company - alongside a badass cake by Charm City Cakes (TV's Ace of Cakes), artwork by Marilyn Manson, and more!

What's your company? Tell us about what you do.
I guess that I AM my company. I am primarily a tattoo artist but I'm also a graphic artist, fine artist, designer, writer, musician and entrepreneur. I am partners in a company called AartKult LLC. We own a tattoo studio where I am the principal artist in Vandalia called Wells & Company Custom Tattoos.

How did you get started?
I feel that my start down this path came at birth. Everything I've experienced has become a tool to do my job. After several years of teenage obsession and tinkering with the artform, I entered into a formal apprenticeship with Dayton's original tattoo-businessman, Glenn Scott. How has your company grown? How many employees do you have? Since moving to my private, appointment-only studio three years ago, things have REALLY taken off. I met and partnered with Tom Davis, himself a tremendously talented artist and designer, and we decided to start really expanding. We have taken on multiple artist tenants in our collectively run studio and have one shop manager, Jason Phillips, who helps us run the studio smoothly.

What is your secret ingredient to success?
Like John Lennon said, "All you need is LOVE." Love what you do and when and how you do it. Love the people you do it with and the people you do it for and they will love you back. My clients are family to me and they have grown this whole thing with me and for me.

Tell us about what you use to do your job.
I use my head and my hands more than anything else. My MacBook. Pens, pencils, paint, tracing paper, Bristol board, canvas, brushes ... For tattooing I have an arsenal of machines and different kinds of needle groupings. Everything is unique about my workspace. I work predominantly in the parlor of an 1800s home a half block from "The Crossroads of America." My space is decorated with statues of Buddha and other Bodhisattvas, skulls, Native American pipes, tattoo rock music and related artwork and photos of my family.
