Just months after brewing began at Wells & Co’s new state‐of‐the‐art home, the pub company has scooped three wins at the globally recognised Craft Beer Marketing Awards, happily coinciding with the long‐awaited full opening of Brewpoint this week.
The Craft Beer Marketing Awards invite breweries from across the world to enter their top
work, recognising and awarding the very best marketing in the brewing industry. Winners in each category receive an award known as a ‘Crushie’, and Wells & Co. walked away with two UK awards as well as a global award for its new logo:
‐ A Gold Crushie in the UK’s Best Can Design category for On Point Pale Ale
‐ A Platinum Crushie in the UK’s Best Unique Logo Design category for the Brewpoint logo
‐ Global winners for the Brewpoint logo, in the Best Unique Logo Design category
(Award‐winning Brewpoint logo and On Point Pale Ale can design)
The award‐winning logo was designed to tell the story behind the Wells & Co brand, looking back over five generations of the Wells family brewing in Bedfordshire, and incorporating the company’s original nautical starfish symbol as a nod to its heritage and history.
Managing Director of Wells & Co, Peter Wells, said: “The first time we saw the new logo for
Brewpoint, it was one of those moments where something just hits the nail on the head. We knew we had something special that nodded to our heritage and history and we could happily use for years to come.”
The award‐win has been all the more special for the business, as the designs were very much a Bedford community effort, which saw the Brewpoint team collaborating with local artistic talent to bring its new home and brews to life. Working with Bedford College, where student Carli Pfurtscheller came up with the creative ideas for the logo and branding, it was then developed further in‐house with ex‐Bedford college student, Marcus Finch, to take the brand forward and finalise the overall designs.
Tom Foddy, Head of Sales and Marketing, added: “We wanted to create a brand and individual beers that were instantly recognisable to our customers and we focused on the simplicity of the names and designs to make sure each had great standout. Throughout the design process for our beers and overall brand, this thinking was key and its brilliant to the designs met which this level of recognition at the Craft Beer Marketing Awards. These accolades are all the sweeter to receive in reflection of the hard work that went into creating Brewpoint over the past three years.”
These awards are an encouraging start for Bedford’s fresh‐faced brewery, particularly so with Brewpoint having launched in the middle of a global pandemic. As the site fully opens for the first time this month, it is testament to the team’s hard work and the setbacks the business has overcome during the past four years to bring the brewery and visitor attraction to life.
